Surroundings
Exploring the area from the canals is highly recommended. The old canals were dug in the 14th century with the aim of connecting different villages and towns. By boat or from a beautiful terrace alongside the water with beautifull views over National Park ‘De Vlietlanden’. In spring this is a sea of flowers. The larger water of the Foppenplas is ideal fishing water. All this at 500m sailing or walking from our location. Electrical Sloops can be rented close by.
An extensive network of cycle roads leads you to the cultural-historical city of Delft, the glass city of Westland, the old city of Maassluis along the river rhine and the beach of Hook of Holland. Or take the ferry in Maassluis to the South Holland islands.
The meadows are perfect for a long walk on dikes and church paths, between cows and sheep. Take the small ferry ‘de kwakel’ to Vlaardingen or the small manual ferry to Schipluiden.
The restaurants Lickebaertshoeve, or organic restaurants Indigo and Op Hodenpijl in Schipluiden for the connoisseur. ‘Bij de Buurvrouw’ tea house within walking distance for the best cakes. Or get fresh dairy products and the best cheese from the ‘van Winden’ diary shop. Pancakefarm ‘t Sonnetje’ is a childrens favorite.
There is plenty of culture within the cities. The beautiful old city center of Delft, the ‘Binnenhof’ in The Hague and modern Rotterdam with for example the Markthal.
